If you own a Monsoon Multimedia Vulkano Deluxe you know that you can watch YouTube videos on your TV. If you have owned one for some time you may not know that they have updated the service quite a bit.
Monsoon has made it easier to search for videos, control the playback and even choose the output resolution. If you have not tried it lately you may want to check it out. You do need to have your external storage device, either a disk drive or SD card, connected to your Vulkano to use the YouTube video feature because it needs some place to buffer the videos.
If you don’t have any storage on your Vulkano you will not be able to watch YouTube videos but if you do here are some tips and tricks to viewing them.
You are probably already familiar with the basic Vulkano menu. To watch YouTube videos you would go to the ‘Internet Apps’ menu.
Once at the ‘Internet Apps’ menu you would scroll right and then select the YouTube menu.
You will immediately be shown their recently featured videos. So if you are interested in what is hot right now on YouTube you can check it out right away.
But before you watch any videos we recommend you arrow down to the Settings menu and choose the video resolution that works best for your setup.
Depending on you internet speed you would choose the highest resolution that your speed can provide. Since you are downloading from the internet most homes will work fine at the 720p HD setting.
Once you have picked the resolution it will be saved and all videos you watch will use that resolution. You don’t have to change it every time.
Search for YouTube Videos
One of our favorite features is the YouTube search. We are always having people say we need to watch some video that they think is funny or important. Instead of jumping on a computer you can just do a quick search on your Vulkano and watch it on your TV.
To search for a video scroll down to the ‘Search’ menu and click on ‘ok’. The Vulkano will pop-up a search menu that looks like this with a couple of options.
There are two ways to enter a search term. One is using your remote and pressing the number buttons and scrolling through each letter. The other is to use an on-screen keyboard and enter your search them there.
To use the keyboard feature press the red remote button and an on-screen keyboard will pop up.
Arrow to the keys you want to enter and when highlighted press the ok button on your remote.
Enter the term you wish to search for and then highlight and enter the ‘Done’ Key
You will then be brought back to the search window.
If satisfied arrow right, highlight the search icon and press ‘ok’ on the remote.
You are then shown your search results with details of each video. Click on the video you wish to watch and it will begin playing.
While you are watching a YouTube video the pause, play, etc buttons on your remote will allow you to control the playback of the video. If you want to stop viewing the video before it ends click on the stop button and you will be brought back to the YouTube menu.
That’s the basics of viewing videos from YouTube but we have found that some ‘Adult’ rated videos will not play. If that is the case a menu will come up and tell you the video is not playable.
